Why is my laptop not recognizing a new external CD/DVD drive after connecting?

  1. Check that you are connecting the drive in the right port.
  2. Check the power supply connected to the CD/DVD drive.
  3. Update the drivers via device manager.
  4. Check device manager if the CD/DVD drive is visible.
  5. Run compatibility troubleshooter if the device is not visible.
  6. Check device installation settings.
  7. Run hardware and device troubleshooter.
  8. Disable and then enable the CD/DVD drive.
  9. Try a different USB cable.
