- Check connections for external monitor cables (DisplayPort, VGA, USB-C, DVI, HDMI) and make sure they are securely connected.
 - Check settings for the external monitor in the device's 
Display
settings. - Restart the laptop.
 - Check to see if the laptop is outputting video by connecting the external monitor to another device.
 - Reinstall the most current device drivers for the laptop's display adapter.
 - Check for a Windows update.
