Why is my laptop not recognizing a connected external monitor after changing the resolution?

  1. Check connections for external monitor cables (DisplayPort, VGA, USB-C, DVI, HDMI) and make sure they are securely connected.

  2. Check settings for the external monitor in the device's Display settings.

  3. Restart the laptop.

  4. Check to see if the laptop is outputting video by connecting the external monitor to another device.

  5. Reinstall the most current device drivers for the laptop's display adapter.

  6. Check for a Windows update.
