- Keep all your software up to date and enable the automatic update feature, if your system has it. 
 - Install anti-malware software on your system, if it does not already have one.  
 - Regularly back up your important files, such as documents, music, photos, etc.  
 - If you suspect an infection, scan your computer with the latest version of your malware software. 
 - If you believe that your computer is highly infected, consider removing your hard drive and any removable media such as DVDs, CDs, and USB sticks from the system and installing a fresh copy of your operating software. 
 - When connected to the internet, make sure to practice safe-surfing habits such as not visiting the websites with questionable content, regularly scanning files with virus-checking software before opening them, avoiding suspicious emails and potential hoaxes.
